Notes mourning brooch associated with 12-3431 Private Charles Leslie Mounce, 8th Reinforcements, Auckland Infantry Battalion, 1NZEF Charles Mounce was an Auckland man, a cabinetmaker by trade, but appears to have been a guard at Mt Eden prison at the time of his enlistment in 1915. Private Mounce was wounded in France, in the vicinity of Armentieres on 13 July, 1916 and died two days later, at the age of 23. He is buried in the Cite Bonjean Military Cemetery, Armentieres, Nord, France. Son of James and Aileen Mounce of Auckland, New Zealand NOTE- a 63-page printed and leather-bound diary (as family keepsake) in the library collection purports to chronicle his army experiences from enlistment on 25 August 1915 to his final days
