Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Commonwealth War Graves marker at the British Cemetery on Ocracoke Island, NC. The British Cemetery is the final resting place for the crewer of the British armed Trawler HMT Bedfordshire, which was torpedoed and sunk by a German U-boat in May 1942. The HMT Bedfordshire, while a British vessel, was operating in defense of the U.S. coast during the early days of WWII. Only four bodies from the sunken vessel were recovered and interred here. Today the graves and historical markers of the British Cemetery are maintained by the U.S. Coast Guard.
