In theextension work in the South it is found that considerable interest 20 DEPARTMENT CIRCULAR 38, U. S. DEPT. OF AGRICULTURE. can be added by securing offers of prizes from public-spirited citi-zens of the community or States. If the merchants and otherpublic-spirited citizens of a community are visited and the workexplained to them before the organization of the clubs, it will befound comparatively easy to raise a fund to cover the expense ofgiving prizes to the successful contestants. The chief prize in eachState should be a years expenses in an agricultural high school orcollege. The following additional prizes are suggested and havebeen offered in various States and localities: Trip to expositions,State and county fairs; scholarships in short courses in agriculturalcolleges and schools: different kinds of farm vehicles and imple-
