Summary[edit]
DescriptionBoston, West End, Charles River Dam, B&M P-4a 3713, view to the east (E).jpg |
English: Boston & Maine (B&M) class P-4a heavy express steam locomotive No. 3713 'The Constitution', built in 1934 by Lima Locomotive Works (LLW) in Lima, Ohio. Owned by billionaire F. Nelson Blount, the locomotive was on loan from the Museum of Science in Boston before being transferred to the Steamtown National Historic Site in Pennsylvania to be restored to operational condition. The towers are part of the Craigie Drawbridge, which crosses the Charles River. Behind the locomotive can be seen the towering barrier that closes the Charles River dam when the bridge is open. The Green Line runs along the Charles River Dam on an elevated track. Railcar No. 3512 was built by Boeing in the late 1970s and operated on the MBTA's network until the late 2000s.
