English: On April 14, 2019, the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on board NASA’s Terra satellite acquired a true-color image centered on the Bohai Sea.

Situated on the coast of northeastern China just southeast of Beijing, this body of water is a gulf of the Yellow Sea. The Bohai Sea, sometimes referred to as the Bohai Gulf, Bohai Bay, or just the Bo Hai, covers about 30,000 square miles (78,000 sq km) and is one of the busiest seaways in the world.

The streaks, swirls, and clouds of tan and green that color the waters of the Sea are primarily created by suspended sediment. The major rivers of northeast China all spill sediment into the Bohai Sea. The Yellow River carries dust from the Gobi Desert of Inner Mongolia through the North China Plain before pouring into the waters via the ever-changing delta. The large Yellow River Delta protrudes on the southwest coast and is surrounded by sediment.
