Summary[edit]
DescriptionBlue Ridge Awards, file 03.jpg |
English: wyswyg
This website is the first time I saw what the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal looked like. I got off of Blue Ridge and out of the Navy before this medal was distributed to the crew. Later, I saw the ship does not display this medal on its flying bridge despite the record of serving the required 6 months in the Vietnam combat zone. This site displays the medal despite its history only stating that BR was in the Vietnam combat zone for 5 months. At the time I was aboard, we were told that the President of South Vietnam, Thieu, awarded it to Blue Ridge when he came aboard BR just after the ship's fire-fight with shore guns on Tiger Island. But we also qualified for it at the begining of July. This site also omit the month of July as does the official Navy Medal Award site. That July 1972 time on the GOT is clearly stated in the Blue Ridge History Report for 1972 as it is in two other government sources. |
