English: Black Sluice Pumping Station, Boston The pumping station came into operation in 1946, together with the widening of 11 miles of the South Forty Foot Drain from Boston to Donington Bridge. The pumping station was equipped with 3 Ruston vertical five cylinder 900 horse power diesel engines driving 100" diameter vertical spindle pumps. The work was carried out and financed by the Witham and Steeping Rivers Catchment Board at a cost of £374,000. |
