Summary[edit]

Description
English: Bishopsgate Goods Yard wall
The area of disused land in front of the brick arches is the site of one of London's early railway terminus stations. The station opened in 1840, originally called Shoreditch but subsequently renamed as Bishopsgate. It was superseded by the opening of a new station at Liverpool Street, and closed to passengers in 1879.

The site was then developed as a goods depot, catering for large quantities of freight which was transported into and out of London by train. The goods depot was destroyed by fire in 1964.

After lying derelict for many years, part of the site is now occupied by London Overground's Shoreditch High Street station, which opened in 2010. This photo was taken from a waiting area within Shoreditch High Street station.
