THE DOMESTIC CAT. In the old, old writings of the sacredSanskrit language, that ancient languageof the Hindoos, nearly two thousandyears ago reference was made to the Do-mestic Cat. And so we know that Catsexisted long ago and are a very ancientanimal. But by means of pictures weare able trace their origin to still earliertimes, for the Egyptian monumentsabound in pictured Cats, and, strangeryet, in Egypt are found mummies of boththe domestic and common jungle Cat.How very important it must have beenconsidered! Think of burying the bodyof every forlorn, luckless Cat, and thenrealize the pains taken, not only to giveit a burial, but to preserve it for ages tocome; and this the Egyptians did, fordoubtless it was to them the most sacredof all sacred animals.
