tlingsolo and a novelty number, then imitated the songs of birds during forty-fiveminutes, accompanying the bird-music with observations on the beauty andmeaning of bird-songs and with paintings of the birds about four times life size.During the last fifteen minutes I attempted by word pictures to impress theaudience with the astonishing usefulness of birds, and concluded the programwith an exhortation to observe and learn to love the wonder and beauty ofnature. Usually, the after-meeting was well attended. I first described the usefuland interesting things that the community should do to encourage the birds.I also emphasized the personal refinement and social pleasure that a bird clubwould bring. Then, if a good majority of those present voted to organize,nominations were in order by any above fourteen years of age for a board ofclub directors.
