English: Biodiversity Sign & Early Lime & Cement Works Built of local limestone rubble with red brick dressings to the openings and chimney, the works feature a large rectangular block with two kilns in line on the seaward side and the mill behind. Open from 1888 to 1926 bringing in a new scale of working to the lime industry. Aberthaw lime was famous for its hydraulic qualities. It was a 1 to 1 mixture of pozzolana and Aberthaw lime that was instrumental in the construction of the Eddystone lighthouse. |
