Description
English: Confocal microscopic image showing growth of Pseudomonas fluroescence biofilm (green) in a capillary tube filled with glass beads (black) and water (red). These images were collected from laboratory experiments described by Kirk et al. (2012). The image on the left was collected 19 hours after cells were added to the capillary tube and the image on the right, 43 hours after cells were added. Hydraulic conductivity (K) at each time point is indicated in the bottom left of each image. Hydraulic conductivity describes the ease with which a fluid can pass through a porous media. It includes permeability as well as properties of the fluid.
