Description
English: Ladies' lamentation for ye loss of Senesino

Plate 38 in vol. 1 of George Bickham Jr. (1704-1771)'s The Musical Entertainer. London: Charles Corbett, (1737). full book downloadable at imslp.org/wiki

At the very top we see an engraving showing Senesino as he is about to embark on his ship sailing back to Italy.

On either side of him the two primadonne Francesca Cuzzoni and Faustina Bordoni try to hold him back. On the far right we see servants or porters carrying Senesino's belongings including sacks of gold hinting at the huge amount of money Senesino made while in England. According to Grove's Dictionary of Music (1898), over the years he had earned 15,000 pounds.

Senesino left England in 1735.

George Bickham Jr. (1704-1771): The Musical Entertainer.
