Buddhist mythology and legends depicted at a Vipassana Meditation Center

Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Panels containing Buddhist ideas and Jataka tales are common in Asian Buddhist sites. The depicted version vary marginally or significantly depending on the Buddhist sub-tradition. The above panel show one of many versions of samsara and bhavachakra that exist in the Buddhist traditions. It is depicted as a circular endless mandala, and also called the "wheel of life", "wheel of cyclic existence" or the "wheel of becoming". The samsara shows human life going through repetitive cycle of birth, death and rebirth, its relationship to ignorance and dukkha (suffering), through many realms of existence (earthly life being one of those realms). The panel above is the version shown at a Vipassana Meditation Center set up in India by a Myanmar-based Buddhist group.
