Summary[edit]

Description

St.Mary’s Boys Parade near grandstand, Beverley Westwood, 1911. This is another image celebrating Empire Day, 1911. A crowd has gathered near the grandstand on the racecourse. The group of schoolboys are sat on the ground facing the grandstand. In front of them are boys dressed in a white uniform. The gentleman in the centre seems to be addressing them and the audience behind him on the grandstand. Organised races have been held on Beverley Westwood and Hurn for over 300 years. The first stand was erected in 1767, followed by a second one in 1887. Both were demolished in 1928. Racing remains popular in Beverley, with many improvements to the course in recent years.
