Summary[edit]

Description
English: Bernera Lobster dock wall Tob Blar Meadha. This impressive dock wall constructed in 1860 by Murdo Morrison contains massive masonry sections and was in constant use up to the 1960s. It allows water to seep in while also acting as a lock. Its purpose was to preserve the live lobster catch for ease of transport in Victorian times to Billingsgate Market. This provided a great leap forward in the reputation of Great Bernera as a renowned centre for the shellfish industry.
