Description
Deutsch: Ehemaliges Mietshaus am Märkischen Ufer 8 in Berlin-Mitte, heute als Wohnhaus einbezogen in den Komplex der Australischen Botschaft an der Wallstraße. Das fünfgeschossige Gebäude mit Holzbalkendecken wurde 1886 für den Maurermeister David Miersch errichtet. 1978 wurde es an den benachbarten Gebäudekomplex des Dietz-Verlags (Wallstraße 76-79 und Märkisches Ufer 6) angeschlossen und danach als Gästehaus der SED genutzt. 1996 wurden beide Gebäude von der australischen Regierung erworben und zur neuen australischen Botschaft in Berlin umfunktionalisiert. Das Haus Märkisches Ufer 8 ist als Teil des Ensembles Märkisches Ufer denkmalgeschützt.
English: Former apartment building at Märkisches Ufer No. 8 in Berlin-Mitte, now part of the Australian Embassy complex on Wallstraße. The five-story building with timber beam ceilings was built in 1886 for the master bricklayer David Miersch. In 1978, it was annexed to the neighboring building of the Dietz publishing house (Wallstraße No. 76-79 and Märkisches Ufer No. 6); afterwards it was used as guest house of the SED. In 1996, the government of Australia purchased the two buildings and established its new embassy here. The building Märkisches Ufer No. 8 is landmarked.
