[edit]
Description
English: A Chinese company sells small ( 5") wax-coated zinc cans for use as flower pots. I found ethyl acetate solvent can remove the inner was coating to expose the fresh zinc metal. A steel wool ball is wrapped in paper towel and placed in the can with 20% (m/v) aq. NaOH electrolyte. 1.18V (open) and 750 mA. Shirt circuit to 0.87 V sees rapid rebound. This cell may be re-chargeable, We are collecting data on performance. Inexpensive and great for student introduction to energy storage.
