Summary[edit]

Description

April 13, 2017 Galveston, Texas

During a BSEE government initiated unannounced exercise (GIUE), an oil spill removal organization (OSRO) deploys an inclined belt skimmer with a side arm collection system from their response vessel. For this response tactic, containment boom is stretched on an outrigger extending from the vessel. As the vessel moves forward, oil is corralled by the boom and directed towards the inclined belt skimmer located in the boom pocket. Oil that sticks to the belt is scraped off and pumped aboard the vessel. BSEE plans and executes a GIUE to witness and evaluate, on a no-notice basis, an oil spill response plan holder’s capabilities for employing public and private equipment, resources, and staff to respond to a hypothetical oil spill.
