Summary[edit]

Description
English: The photo shows an image of the plasma glow of a laboratory gas discharge. Such discharge is ignited at applying to electrodes that are spaced apart by 1 cm nanosecond (1:1000000000 sec) voltage pulses with an amplitude of 200 000 V. The current strength under such conditions is 5000 A. In this photo, the discharge was ignited in SF6 gas at a pressure of 8 times lower than atmospheric pressure. Bright spots on the surface of the lower electrode having a flat shape are explosive emission centers, from which sparks are growing. On the upper electrode having form of a tube, the spindle of a spark is also visible. The dim blue glow is the vaporized metal.
