This newly completed building at Housto)i, Tex., is an example of modern and efficientdesign for housing the latest type of toll switching equipment l82 Bell Telephone Magazine AUTUMN ministrative offices, garages, store-rooms and other purposes. The gen-eral plan is to own buildings designedfor permanent use; and building con-struction costing over 60 million dol-lars was done In 1951. Largerbuildings are of fire-resistant design,and special efforts are made to obtaineconomical structures of pleasing ap-pearance. The locations of equipment build-ings in the areas to be served are de-termined in a general way by long-range studies; but as the time ap-proaches to erect a specific structure,a review is made to decide the preciselocation most suitable and the precisetime when the building should beready to take the equipment. Onceestablished, a center of this kindshould function efficiently for manyyears, as it is not economical or prac-ticable to do any large scale re-locating of equipm
