Sonuiinus there is nuitiial frustration. 48 letters, reports, and memoranda. I ap-preciate that you, personally, dont haveany problems. However, we would liketo help others less gifted than you. Whatsuggestions can you offer that will im-prove the quality of business writing? The reaction to my question was uni-vereally heartwarming. Rarely have I ex-perienced such a generous out-pouring offriendly advice and good natured criti-cism. What follows is a sampling of theirresponses. First, the managers: As it happened my first respondent wasbusy on the speakerphone. I caught afew words of his conversation. I just sent you a letter, he was say-ing, and I wanted to explain it toyou . . . . When he had finished, I asked him mystandard question about how to improvecompany writing. He arose and softlyclosed the door. I think youre looking for solutions atthe wrong level, he said. My boys and I dont have any prob-lems—its a happy collaboration: Give alittle take a little.
