But this was only mock warfare.The real use for the weapons thatan anti-aircraft battery of the East-ern Defense Command of the Armyhad brought to the Bell TelephoneLaboratories at Murray Hill fordemonstration was on the battlefields in Europe, the islands of theSouth Seas, perhaps other parts ofan embattled world too. Two days later, on November 9,1500 men and women of the Labora-tories, distinguished Army guests,newspaper and magazine reportersand photographers, and representa-tives from other Bell System com-panies who had assembled on theMurray Hill grounds saw these wea-pons in simulated action against tar-get planes.
