Source Document Engineering( SDE) is another way the engineer-ing interval has been reduced. Itsnow widely used on broadband jobsfor Long Lines, but there are alsomany variations of SDE used oncentral office installations. SDEeliminates one of the most time-consuming steps in the whole BellSystem engineering process. It by-passes the outline spec—one of thedocuments that was traditionallyprepared by the telephone companyengineering staff for Westerns usein doing the detailed engineeringjobs.
