Ritchie, Associate EditorBell Telephone Magazine WM Telezonia — the Bell Systemselementary school telephone usageprogram—is a name that has becomefamiliar to generations of school childrenover the past 15 years. But, in 15 yearsa lot can happen. Change—the ubiquitouscharacteristic of our times—has not onlyprofoundly affected the world of commu-nications but also the rapidity with whichyoung children become acquainted withthis world. Now there is a new Telezoniaprogram which has been designed to in- corporate these changes. And the indica-tions are that the new program is goingto be even more successful than thefirst one. The principal purpose of the new Tele-zonia program is to help the child in thelower elementary grades to form effectivetelephone habits. It covers such subject areas aslanguage arts (courtesy and clearness inspeech, and alphabetizing), social studiesUhe childs place in the community, in-cluding the role of communications in thecommunity) and science (sound, andhow the telephone works). The teachermay use either the language arts, socialstudies or science approach—or she maycombine all three.
