Modern telephone buildings are rising in many Turkish cities. This one is in Elazii tices. Inspection trips to all parts ofthe country have been made, with re-sulting specific suggestions. Domestic Arrangements With one or two exceptions, thewives of the Bell System men haveaccompanied or followed them, and ina few instances, other members oftheir families have done so. At first,the group was located in Istanbul(long famous as Constantinople), abeautiful city with many ancientmosques and other points of architec-tural and historic interest. Manyhours were spent exploring in the cityand riding back and forth on the littleferry boats that go up the Bosphorusalmost to the Black Sea, with stopsat little commuting settlements alongthe waters edge. Now the entire group is at Ankara,300 miles east of Istanbul on a 3,000 foot plateau, established as the capi-tal of the Republic by Kemal Ataturksoon after World War I.
