In 1965, of thetotal of $100 million earmarked for mod-ernization of central office equipment,$60 million are for replacing older typesof dial equipment. The miscellaneous expenditures in thisclassification include the mechanizationof clerical operations involving the pur-chase of electronic computers as well asprojects designed to improve plant op-erations. These expenditures are $100million in each year. The Service Improvement category in-cludes expenditures of $475 million in1964 and $490 million in 1965. These cap-ital expenditures would provide jobs for^6.000 people in 1964 and 58,000 peoplen 1965.
