An Instance of a Beauvais Tapestry depicting Chinese and Jesuit Astronomers, in the Munich Residenz, part of "The Story of the Emperor of China" series.

Summary[edit]

Description
English: This tapestry, one of roughly 15 similar works, depicts Jesuit missionaries demonstrating and cooperating with high-ranking Chinese officials in the use of novel European astronomical devices. The figure in blue with the white beard is likely Johann Adam Schall von Bell, and the figure in red behind the globe may be the Shunzhi Emperor. The tapestry is housed in the Munich Residenz museum, in the Electoral Rooms.
