Title
Bead
Description
English: A cast copper-alloy object, probably a bead, dating from the Bronze Age or Early Iron Age.

The artefact is lozenge-shaped. Each corner has a large rounded knop. The knops are irregular in shape. Each side of the lozenge has been made up of a circular-sectioned strip of copper alloy, which has been slightly flattened. The artefact appears to have been cast as one piece and then worked and shaped. There is a (roughly) square hole in the centre of the lozenge, which looks as though it has been formed by later working of the metal after the initial casting process has taken place. There does not appear to be any joins at any corner. The artefact has a dark brownish-green patina.

The shape and method of manufacture of this bead is very similar to an unidentified object, which has previously been recorded onto the database as SUSS-F6BA96. The unidentified object could have been a strap junction or a decorative pendant, and was much bigger than this find. But it is possible that these two finds are similar artefacts, which may relate to each other. The finds were found in neighbouring parishes.
