Summary[edit]

Description
English: Beach and cliffs East of Chewton Bunny I lived in Highcliffe in the 1950s and early 1960s and it's depressing to see the degraded state of Highcliffe's beach and cliffs, with so much ugly concrete everywhere in an attempt to prevent further erosion. Of course the cliffs are inherently soft and unstable and were slumping in the 50s, but not nearly as much as now - the 'high cliff' which was just about still a reality 50 years ago now resembles a muddy slope. The natural drainage system has been ruined by unrestricted housing development all over the Highcliffe area since WW2. It's particularly sad that Chewton Bunny, which used to a steep wooded valley right down to the coast, has been completely eliminated.
