Summary[edit]
DescriptionBaynards Railway Station.jpg |
English: Baynards Railway Station It was never intended to build a station here on the Guildford to Horsham railway. However, the Rev Thomas Thurlow, owner of the Tudor mansion at Baynards, sold the land needed by the railway company on condition that it provided a station at the end of his drive. A pub (the Thurlow Arms) and a few cottages followed the building of the station but those are still the only buildings in the vicinity. The railway has now become the popular Downs Link cycle path and the station building - the only one to survive between Guildford and Horsham - is now privately owned and has been superbly restored. Passing cyclists probably bring the pub a great deal more trade than the trains ever did. |
