JEFFERSON DAVIS ous rocks have been found—at Alloa,near the Devils Nose, at BaxtersHollow, three near Denzer and theLower Narrows. By far the largest area, fully de-scribed by Professor Samuel Weid-man in The Baraboo Iron-BearingDistrict, is found at the Lower Nar-rows, distributed over the width ofmore than half a mile along the northslope, to the east and west of thegap. At the bridge the road to theleft leads to a point less than a mile later geologic formation of the regionrests—to be upon it is to be upon thefloor of the world. Road Hugs the BluffEastward from the bridge over theBaraboo River, the highway hugs thebluff. A few Indian mounds may beseen less than half a mile to the northafter passing the first farm house. Tothe east of these mounds the skele-tons of about sixty Indians were un-covered when one was leveled a num-ber of years ago. The Indian corpses 39
