ENGINE No. 1401 The picture on the cover of the magazine is the front view of this engine. This photograph was taken on the turntable at Riverside after the engine had .been repaired in the round house. The Safety First monogram was made in the shops onthe initiative cf Foreman Brady and his men. It is constructed in a very substantial manner from heavy brass and iskept in a highly polished condition by the engine crew. No. 1401 makes a fine showing with the new monogram and has created much favorable comment among the men. 1401has been in service since 1886, and runs between Baltimore and Hagerstown. John Hartman, air brakeman, is in the cab.
