Summary[edit]

Description
English: Trestle for Port Ballona’s “Ballona Branch” of the California Central Railway (1888), part of the Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe Railroad. The man-made canal below enabled access to the Del Rey Lagoon and, in turn, the sea for transport of cargo for Port Ballona (Moye Wicks, Mesmers, Daniel Freeman, et. al.). In 1902 this became the Los Angeles Pacific Electric Railway. It was used for construction of the Playa del Rey Motordrome in 1910 (0.5 miles NE). This line acquired and merged with the Pacific Electric Railway Company in 1911 for the Red Car line from Culver City to Playa del Rey and Redondo Beach.
