Summary[edit]

Description
English: Ballast Tamper, Tring Station. This unusual looking railway engine was parked up on sidings next to Platform 5 at Tring Station. Thanks to Ben Harris, I'm informed that this is in fact a Ballast Tamper used to tamp (i.e. pack) track ballast under railway tracks. It may also check the alignment of the rails and make sure that they're parallel.

See wikipedia article here - Ballast_tamper A similar but slightly different engine 1031933 can be glimpsed behind this one. Another photo of this engine on the Web http://www.ontrackplant.com/photo/73244
