On voit ici les quatre plans rectangulaires dont la traînée frontale (ils sont normaux à l'écoulement) agissait en opposition avec la portance de l'aile à tester. Un équilibre s'établissait entre ces deux forces en opposition et l'aiguille indiquait cette position d'équilibre. Il ne restait plus aux frères Wright qu'à effectuer quelques calculs trigonométriques...
On voit ici le modèle d'aile à tester. La portance de ce modèle tends à l'entraîner vers la droite...
