Title
badge in the shape of a boar
Description
English: Cast copper alloy badge or possibly mount in the shape of a boar standing facing right. The badge is worn but has an elaborately curled tail, part of a bristly ridge down the back, a pointed ear, a squared off snout with tusks and two legs shown. The front is slightly convex and the back flat but rough. Traces of white metal on the back may be the remains of solder for attaching the pin. It is 28.1mm long, 16.9mm wide and 3.4mm thick; it weighs 3.79 grams.

The style is very similar to Late Medieval badges e.g. LEIC-A6C834 , YORYM-1716A4, NARC-F57226 and Treasure Annual Report 2000, p83, no. 155. The white boar was the personal badge of Richard III (1483 - 1485), it was in use by his household from at least the 1470's and many such badges were made as souvenirs for his coronation. However more modern reproductions are also common.
