Notes Kings Empire Veterans medal of 2529 Trooper Cyril R Waddell, 5th NZ Mounted Rifles, Anglo Boer War. The NZ EVA (or KEV) was formed in 1900 when retired members of the Imperial Forces resident in NZ formed the NZ Empire Veterans Association (NZ EVA) under the patronage of the Earl of Ranfurly. Members were issued with a bronze 'membership' medal. Subsequently membership expanded to include veterans with the Colonial and later NZ Defence Forces. After the visit to NZ of Lord Kitchener in 1910 the name of the Association changed to the King's Empire Veterans Association (KEV); and in 1912 the KEV was formed into an Honorary Reserve Corps. 2529 Trooper Cyril Richard Waddell served with the 5th NZ Mounted Rifles, 13 Coy (Wellington, Nelson and West Coast South Island Section). On enlistment he was a baker by trade and his next of kin was named as Sophia Ann Waddell of Auckland. Mr Waddell was also listed in the Second Reserves of the NZEF, WW1. At that time his address was Huia Rd, Otahuhu.
