| Description | So here we are then, back at the deer feeding station- apparently the free ranging Sika deer on Miyajima Island are not 100% wild! Considered sacred in Shinto Buddhism, especially as one of the bodhisatavas is said to have come riding on a white deer, these free ranging deer are allowed to roam around freely around the island. Of course, some people have expressed their disappointment at the deer being always on an unnatural diet, fed to them by humans or by their picking up scraps and left overs from careless visitors, but that's the way it is here. From this kiosk, you can buy 'deer cookies' which you can feed to the Sika deer. They can get quite pushy in trying to get at it and often jostle each other, and the tourist in the process as each one tries to outwit the other in taking the handout.
