English:

An incomplete and bent copper-alloy trumpet brooch of Roman date, c.75-75AD. The brooch is similar to Hattatt's No. 1529 (1989, p. 326, Fig 185). The head is a 'trumpet-like' form and is broadly D-shaped in section. The bow of the brooch tapers towards a circular foot. At the rear of the head there is a pierced lug supporting the axis bar and spring (Eight turns of the spring remain on the axis bar). The catchplate is missing. At the waist there is acanthus moulding. The bow continues with a D-shaped section to terminate in a circular foot knop. The surface of the brooch is pitted and has a mid green patina
