Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Pacing Horse

Italy, about 1600
Bronze, cast
Antonio Susini (active 1580-1624)

Susini made this bronze around the time he was setting up his own studio, signing it on the underbelly. It is a development of Giambologna's monument to Cosimo I de'Medici, which Susini had helped to make. The reins and girth suggest that the horse was meant to have a rider.
