and prominent. To the right and left of eachentrance inside start broad flights of easy stairs leading to the galleries. The galleries are 60 feet wide and 25 feet highfion the ground floor and are lighted on the sides by largewindows, and from above by a high, clear story extendingaround the building. The main fronts look Southward on the the great centralcourt and Xorthward on the Western and middle lakes, andan island gorgeous with flowers. The principal fronts dis-play enormous arched entrances, richly embellished withsculptural decorations emblematic of mining and its alliedindustries. At each end of these fronts are large square pavil-ions surmounted by low domes, which mark the four cornersof the building, and are lighted by large arched windowsextending through the galleries. These loggias on the first floor are faced with mar-bles of different kinds and hues, which will be consideredpart of the mining exhibits, and so utilized as to have market-able value at the close of the Exposition. The loggia ceilingwill be heavily coffered and richly decorated in plaster andcolor. The ornamentation is massed at the prominent pointsof the facade. The exterior presents a massive, thoughgraceful appearance.
