Prague is a mediaeval town and one of the mostinteresting existing, in spite of some very unsatis-factory buildings dating from the seventeenth andeighteenth centuries. Though it has been again andagain the scene of conflict, there is still enoughremaining from the past to afford a rich feast to thelover of antiquities. The castle of Vysehead, builtof the stones of a still older fortress, stands highabove the city, and is a monumental chapter ofhistory in itself if properly studied. The town is onthe river Moldau, and overlooking this is the Hrad-cany Palace of the ancient kings, dating mainly fromthe fourth century, but since greatly rebuilt andadded to.
