Summary[edit]

Description

Auricularia americana Parmasto & I. Parmasto ex Audet, Boulet & Sirard

Image location: Coconino Co., Arizona, USA

as it occurred on coniferous wood. The same study proposed A. angiospermarum for A. americana on deciduous wood: “On the basis of the host, distribution, and molecular data of the A. americana angiosperm clade, we consider it to be an independent species; it is described as A. angiospermarum, although it does not have distinct morphological differences from A. americana s. str. A. angiospermarum grows on angiosperms and has a distribution in North America only, while A. americana s. str. is a common species on gymnosperms and has a wide distribution in North America and Asia (Looney et al. 2013; Malysheva and Bulakh 2014; Wu et al. 2014).”

The type for A. americana was collected in NA (Quebec) on Abies. The type for A. angiospermarum was collected in NA (Ct.) on Quercus.
