Auricularia americana Parmasto & I. Parmasto ex Audet, Boulet & Sirard Image location: Rock Creek Regional Park, Montgomery Co., Maryland, USA I suspect these to be Auricularia sp. because of their color, etc. but the mass and the tube shaped bodies have me confused. (primordia?) Note that they appear to be dried, covered with spores or molding, then are later restored by nearly freezing rain. I believe this is growing on the top of a tulip poplar stump. I don’t think I have seen Auricularia on tulip poplar…, Recognized by sight: Walt, I have noticed your suggestions, what do you think about this one?
