ended again, and thename changed to Athens Female College. The main building was erected in 1843, and has received two sub-stantial additions. Athens Female College has been a church institution from the dayof its inception. It is to-day the only institution for the education ofyoung women owned or controlled by the North Alabama Conference. The College has had an honorable history, and is enshrined in thehearts of thousands of our people. The present is propitious; the futureis therefore promising. With our beautiful campus and grove land in the heart of this thrivingand cultured little town, with our handsome old building with its modernconveniences and splendid health record, With the assurance of the heartysupport of the brethren, the endorsement of the entire Conference and anunswerving faith in the guidance of our Heavenly Father, how can wedoubt the destiny of Athens Female College? In the words of the Psalm-ist. Unto thee, O God, do we give thanks, unto thee do we give thanks.

WEST PORTICO BUILDING AND GROUNDS. The entire structure is of brick. The main building is of beautifulIonic design, three stories high. Two additions to the main building havebeen made. In these are dining-room and chapel on first floor, with sleep-ing rooms in second story. The dining-room is spacious. The chapel is 50x80 feet. Sleepingrooms are well heated, ventilated and lighted by electricity. By meansof the $10,000.00 appropriation made for the institution at the last ses-sion of Conference (see extract from minutes), the entire bnilding isbeing heated by steam, large gymnasium is being opened up, and thedormitory space about doubled. The College is connected with the city waterworks in compliancewith the most approved method. The College grounds comprise some ten acres, with well appointedmajestic and beautiful groves of oak, poplar and maple.
