Typed letter, black text on white paper.

Gettysburg National Military Park Gettysburg, Pennsylvania D66 A8215 February 26, 1963 Mr. Louis Simon, Executive Secretary Commission for the Observance of the 100th Anniversary of the Battle of Gettysburg and Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address Gettysburg, Pennsylvania Dear Mr. Simon: This has reference to your telephone call last week concerning a letter you had received from Representative May, Chairman of the South Carolina Memorial Commission. We have been so far unable to find out who may have told Representative May that it would be satisfactory for them to dedicate the memorial at 10:30 a.m. on July 2. We have had some correspondence on the subject of location and approval of their proposed memorial with Mr. Payne Williams, Claire Towers, Columbia, South Carolina, and we are enclosing a copy of our letter of February 15, 1963, to him. We have not as yet received the blueprints showing design and lettering to go on the memorial. Mr. Williams, as you will note, appears to take a special interest in the proposed South Carolina Memorial but we are not sure at this writing that this is on the South Carolina Commission. As soon as we receive additional information on this matter, we will get in touch with you again. Sincerely yours, S. G. Sollenberger Assistant Superintendent Enclosure SGSollenberger/jks
