Español: primeras escuelas:

La mayoría de los casos se reunían la población indígena en los patios de las misiones , conventos ,en parroquias donde un misionero español los catequizaba. Es así como en 1536, con sesenta estudiantes en un inicio, se funda el Colegio de Santa Cruz de Tlatelolco al lado del convento de los franciscanos, en lo que es hoy la capital de México En el convento de San Francisco de México, el monje franciscano fray Pedro de Gante, funda una escuela en donde acudían hasta 1000 niños La disposición real para recoger y sustentar por cuenta del gobierno a los niños mestizos hijos de españoles abandonados por sus padres, fue el origen del establecimiento del colegio de San Juan de Letrán, primeros maestros: Impartían cátedra maestros como: 

fray Pedro de Peña en Teología,

Juan Negrete, maestro en artes de la Universidad de París Acadiano de la Metropolitana, 

fray Alonso de la Veracruz en escritura sagrada y teología escolástica

García de Cisneros franciscano fray Juan Focher, doctor en leyes y

fray Juan de Gaona de la Universidad de París
