On March 10, 2017 the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) aboard NASA’s Aqua satellite captured a true-color image of gray volcanic ash painted over the bright white snow around Kliuchevskoi.

Summary[edit]

Description
English: At 4,835 m (3 mi) high, the summit of Russia’s Kliuchevskoi volcano towers over the rugged landscape of central Kamchatka. The tall, symmetric, basaltic volcano is one of the most active in the world, frequently producing moderate volume effusive and explosive eruptions. The near-continuous activity also creates huge plumes of ash which rise far into the atmosphere and spread widely across the region. On March 10, 2017 the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) aboard NASA’s Aqua satellite captured a true-color image of gray volcanic ash painted over the bright white snow around Kliuchevskoi. The volcano sits in the southeastern section of the image and a large ash plume can be seen extending towards the northwest across most of the peninsula.
