English: Artwork from a folio of a Janamsakhi manuscript explaining the meaning of Ik Onkar using a traditional theory, involving symbolism from Indic deities. Web source link.
Translation of the traditional theory explaining the meaning of Ik Onkar: “The translation of the symbol of Oankar is the following; Oankar can be split into two parts. The first is Oan and the second is Kar. The Oan is the same as Aum. This can be split into three parts which are A, U and M. A - stands for Akar. This is attributed to the quality of Rajo and represents the deity Brahma. U - stands for Ukar. This is attributed to the quality of Sato and represents the deity Vishnu. M- stands for Makar. This is attributed to the quality of Tamo and represents the deity Shiva. The Kar, which is the line, represents the omnipresent Brahm. This is never ending and infinite like Vahiguru. This line when added to anything adds an infinite amount of fortune. This line also shows that the trinity are under the divine being and get their powers from Parmatma." |
